Spirit SpA Genova was the Italian importer between 1985 and 1988 so this whisky is bottled between that period (and distilled between 1975 and 1978)

with more liquorice and a touch of cough medicine

Finish: long and zesty

there can only be two reasons for doing this: either there was a batch of nearly wrecked Lagavulin barrels that absolutely needed to be salvaged
