During that stay, Christian met and fell in love with Catherine Archibald, a beautiful and feisty barmaid, working at the Sheep Heid Inn, the oldest surviving public house in Scotland, established in 1360. After the war, the two moved to Canada where they started their family Marks (owner) family!
